Local TV Channels in Cebu
One of the most influential communication tools of today is the television (TV). Almost every household has at least one television. Indeed, television allows us to gather information from the programs offered by the different TV networks. Aside from giving knowledge, television provides entertainment. Here in the Philippines, GMA Network Inc., ABS-CBN and TV5 are considered to be the country’s leading TV networks.
There are also local TV channels here in Cebu including the Cebu Catholic Television Network (CCTN) and the Real Cebu Television (RCTV). The dominant networks, ABS-CBN and GMA Network Inc. also have their local stations here in Cebu.
Cebu Catholic Television Network (CCTN, Channel 47)
CCTN is owned by the Archdiocese of Cebu and can be seen on channel 47 and channel 57 on cable television. It is a religious station that airs Catholic programs. However, there are also news, Cebuano drama series and public service air by the station. The first catholic TV station is located in CCTN Broadcast Center, Cardinal Rosales Ave., Cebu Business Park, Cebu City.
Real Cebu Television (RCTV, Channel 36)
RCTV is the flagship and broadcast channel of Media One Creative Inc. It can only be seen on cable television. It was established in 2003 and was considered as the only community channel at that time. The channel airs shows that are mostly inspired by Cebuano culture, lifestyle and events. Now, from being a local TV channel, RCTV aims to reach all the Cebuano from the different places in the world. Through the RCTV website, www.rctv.com.ph, Cebuanos can watch the shows even without cable connections and even if they are not in Cebu. The station is located in Ginza Compound, Old Banilad Road, Cebu City. Some of the station’s shows are the following:

ABS-CBN Cebu (DYCB – TV, Channel 3)
DYCB-TV is a television station of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation that is located in Cebu. The station has news programs - covering news and events in Cebu and from the other places in the whole Central Visayas. They also have public service programs and other shows that showcase the best of Central Visayas. The station’s studio is located in North Road Jagobiao, Mandaue City. The station’s programs include the following:
Maayong Buntag Kapamilya (morning show) – Monday to Friday, 6:30am
TV Patrol Central Visayas (local news program) – Monday to Friday, 4:45pm
Kapamilya Winner Ka (morning game show) – Saturday, 9:30am
Mag TV Na (magazine show) – Sunday, 8:30am

GMA Cebu (DYSS – TV, Channel 7)
DYSS-TV is a television station of GMA Network Inc.. The station’s studio is located in GMA Network Center, Nivel Hills, Apas, Lahug, Cebu City. It has slogans like “Kapuso sa Cebuano” and “Kapuso sa Cebuano” and “Kapuso, ania alang kanimo”. The station’s programs include the following:
Buena Mano Balita (morning show) – Monday to Friday, 6:00am
Balitang Bisdak (local news program) – Monday to Friday, 5:30pm
Sinulog Festival Coverage – Annual coverage of the Sinulog Festival every January\
