World-Class Guitars in Cebu
Cebu is popular for a lot of things. One, for our sweet mangoes. Second, for our cheap, high-quality, hand-crafted guitars. I personally would go for lovingly hand-crafted guitars over the mass produced China-made ones. Cebu-made guitars are made of various types of wood including jackfruit wood, Narra wood and ebony.
You can find a lot of guitar stores along ML Quezon National Highway in Mactan Island – the main highway coming from the old Mactan-Mandaue Bridge (take note, the OLD bridge). Among the more prominent guitar shops are Guitar Master and World Class Guitars. If you want to see the guitar factory, then you have to go to Abuno, Mactan, Lapu-lapu City. In Abuno, you will find an abundance of guitar makers, including Alegre Guitars and Susing’s Guitars.
Guitar Master
The prices at Guitar Master range from P1,000 to P30,000 depending on the material being used on the guitar. Alegre Guitar Factory
Owned by Fernando Alegre from which its name was derived, Alegre Guitars are known for their polished look and variety of designs. Their factory, as was mentioned is in Abuno, Lapu-lapu City. If you want to go there, better take a cab or a tour van. You would not want to lug around a guitar inside a jeepney or a tricycle. Their guitars are exported all over Asia and North America. Susing’s Guitars
The history of Susing’s Guitars start way back in 1949, when Juanito Valiente Sr., a merchant and an excellent luthier, started making Cebu handcrafted guitars and sold them a store owned by Susing, his wife.
