La Maison Rose Cebu (The Pink House)
La Vie En Rose
“When he takes me in his arms
And speaks softly to me, I see life in pink.”
- Edith Piaf
Cebu’s latest aphrodisiac, the place to go to fall in love, is the La Maison Rose (The Pink House). The old “pink house” was recently converted into this chic new restaurant. It is located at 371 Gorordo Avenue Lahug, Cebu City. If you are coming from IT Park, it is on your left side, right before reaching the Church of the Latter Day Saints temple.
La Maison Rose serves exquisite French cuisine that will magically transport you 1940’s France, where you will find yourself falling deeply in love with the one sitting across the table, to the tune of Edith Piaf’s masterpiece.
East Meets West
The word that comes to mind as soon as you enter the Pink House is opulent. The romantic pink hues are contrasted with refreshing green tones. The home is decorated with ornate florals and ambient lighting that surely sets the mood. Your eye is immediately fed with graphics of gorgeous women on the walls. There are colorful paper lanterns strung over cozy nooks. The different rooms are sectioned off with arches reminiscent of the orient, which are a welcoming contrast to the more western exterior.
On My Tab
One thing to note about La Maison Rose is their modern menu. It is quite innovative, the first of its kind in Cebu. It’s on a tablet! Browsing through the dishes is very convenient and even more inviting with this ultra modern novelty. The plan is to eventually have diners just tap on the dishes they would like to order, and it will be transmitted to the kitchen and cashier for convenience.
Falling In Love
La Maison Rose kitchen preps at around 6:00 pm and they are officially open at 6:30 pm. Ze boyfriend and I unwittingly came in early, around 5:45 pm. They were kind enough to seat us and take our orders in advance. They even gave us some bread & butter – twice – while we were waiting. Very generous! I love the staff. They really make you feel at home, very accommodating. They also kept calling me “Madame?” I guess we looked like a married couple. We’ve been together for almost three years now, and one of the things I think that keeps our relationship fresh is discovering new things (usually restaurants) together. After placing our orders, we got up and checked out the place. We took photos. We danced outside without any music just because no one was looking. We talked and laughed. We just enjoyed the night and each other’s company.
Pure Decadence
As soon as we were back at our table, we were served with yet another complimentary platter. This time it had profiteroles, canapés with truffle and whipped Gruyere topped with caviar. Simply delectable! Soon after, our first course arrived. You can’t go to a French restaurant without getting escargot. I had my first snail experience here at La Maison Rose, and it was good! The plating is trés chic, and the flavor is truly magnificent. It was actually just like eating mussels in pesto sauce. For the main course, Ze boyfriend had his way with the Peppered Steak. It was soft and tender like how he imagines Salma Hayek’s buns would feel like if he bit into it. I conversely got the Duck Confit with a side of Potato Gratin. It was the most succulent piece of meat that has ever been pressed against my lips (except of course Ze boyfriend’s lips). The skin had a delicate crisp to it that aroused all my senses. The meat was supple and scrumptious. It fell right off the bone, as if to swoon like a love-struck schoolgirl. The potato gratin was a delightful compliment to the richness of the duck. It had that earthy aroma from all the herbs. The potato was wonderfully woven into layers of caramelized inions that touch every taste bud! Finally, for dessert we decided to share the Mango Tiramisu. It was a refreshing twist on the classic Italian postre.
Although I’m crazy -head-over-heels-his-and-hers-towels-in-love with my man, he knows I also have a love affair with food. This night was a celebration of just that.
